the kitchen

Ok, I haven't really been keeping up with my blog since I started staying home, which is the whole purpose of the blog—to document how I've changed by staying home. It's because I am kind of obsessed right now. Obsessed over my kitchen. The more you stay home, the more you check out your surroundings and want to change them. When you work, you leave your surroundings and don't have time to obsess over wall color, appliances that need an upgrade, or a place to put all the kitchy gifts you got at Christmas. Unless you do it in your sleep, which is what I've been known to do. And when I was working this is the time I would find to mull over the changes I wanted to make in my kitchen. And now that I am not working, I mull over them while my kids are sleeping. I love design. I love everything about it. And for a long time I felt guilty about this. Like design was something so frivolous that it was only for the Jackie Kennedys of the world who had the time and the money to constantly redecorate because it was explained to me that they were quite simply bored. Design is anything but boring! I love detail, especially architectural detail. So I am obsessing over how much architectural detail is okay to add to each room. Can every room have some kind of wainscoting, even though they are different styles? Cause now mine do. But I love it! It looks really beautiful and it even makes me not mind being cooped up in this house with the winter snow-cropolis that is 2011. So check out my new kitchen. It only took me a year, but it's finally done.
Before the renovation--yes, that is an actual chimney!
Next up: the little ones' room

  2. *Sigh* I dream of a white kitchen! Yours is beautiful! So glad you were able to fix that chimney problem, we have one in out kitchen but it's on the wall and taking up a lot of room in our tiny kitchen!

  3. Thank you, both! It was so hideous before. I couldn't even stand to be in the room, let alone cook. Melissa--I love your site and tell all my design friends about it. I have to apologize that it has taken so long to get back to both of you. I am still figuring out this whole blogging world, but thoroughly enjoying it!
